Gulf to Lakes Chapter welcomes new President — Mike Mays, CEC, ACE

Mike Mays - small head shotChef Mike has been a member of the ACF for some fifteen years.  At a very early age, he realized he had a great love for food as he continually found himself helping his mom in the kitchen!    He began working in a Country Club at age 15 and again, was assured that someday he wanted to Head up the kitchen!  When serving our Country in the Marines, Chef Mike truly began his culinary career by being responsible to feed over 12000 men and women daily that’s 4000 per meal!  His military career took quite a turn as Mike was now a seriously trained marine and served as Embassy Security Guard.  This new position took him all over the world including serving in places like Japan, Cyprus, and Korea.  After 10 years of service to our country, Chef Mike decided to stay in Lisbon Portugal and helped to manage a restaurant there.  After several years, he came back to the United States and attended Southeastern Culinary Academy where he received his Certification in Culinary Arts.  Chef Mike then began a long career with several well-known established Florida Country Clubs working his way up to Certified Executive Chef in a very short period of time.  He has continued his education and became a culinary evaluator or ACE, educating and certifying those who wish to become Certified Executive Chefs.   Mike has traveled extensively sharing his recipes and knowledge with other chefs and the community.  Along his travels, Chef Mike met his wife Sally who is also a lover of the culinary world and maintains she is Chefs number one fan.  Ultimately, it is there dream to open their own restaurant.
